Meta Launches AI Tool to Translate and Dub Reels in English and Spanish.

Meta has introduced a new AI-powered translation tool designed to help creators dub and lip-sync their reels in a different language. The feature, Meta AI Translations, aims to allow creators to reach global audiences more effectively and grow a wider following across regions, according to Meta.

The tool was first previewed at the Meta Connect conference last year and is now available in all regions where Meta AI is supported. To use the feature, creators must have either at least 1,000 Facebook followers or a public Instagram account.

At launch, Meta AI Translations supports only English-to-Spanish and Spanish-to-English dubbing, though Meta has said additional languages will be added over time.

To dub a reel, creators can select the “Translate your voice with Meta AI” option before publishing. Within this menu, three separate actions are available: translating your voice, adding lip sync, and previewing the result. Choosing the preview option triggers a notification when the reel is ready, allowing the creator to accept or reject the AI-generated dubbing.

Meta states that the AI tool is designed to mimic the creator’s sound and tone so the dubbed audio feels authentic. When lip-sync is enabled, the AI also matches the mouth movements of the speakers to the translated audio for a more natural appearance.

Once published, reels dubbed using Meta AI will be marked as AI-generated. Viewers will see the reel in their preferred language, with the option to remove the translation via the three-dot menu on the reel.

Meta has also updated metrics for creators. Views will now be categorized by language to give creators a clearer understanding of how their translated reels are performing with different audiences.

Currently, the tool works best for face-to-face videos and supports dubbing for up to two people per reel. For accurate translations, speakers should avoid talking over one another, and background noise should be minimal.

In addition to automated translations, creators can now upload up to 20 of their own dubbed audio tracks to a reel. This can be done through Meta Business Suite following instructions on a dedicated support page. However, creators who have already used Meta AI to dub a reel cannot manually add their own dubbed audio tracks to that same reel.
