Master P on Cash Money’s Legacy, Lil Wayne’s Greatness, and the Nola Walk of Fame.

In a recent interview on Bag Fuel, Master P offered a rare glimpse into his views on Cash Money Records’ meteoric rise, Lil Wayne’s influence, and his mission to celebrate New Orleans’ rich cultural heritage. Here’s a breakdown of the key highlights from the conversation.

Reflecting on the success of Cash Money Records, Master P dismissed the idea of rivalry, instead expressing joy for their achievements. “I never looked at it as competition. I was happy to see it go the way it did for them,” he shared. The No Limit founder lauded Lil Wayne as “probably the greatest rapper alive” and acknowledged the profound role Birdman, Slim, and Wayne played in elevating New Orleans to a global stage.

Master P revealed plans to celebrate Cash Money’s legacy alongside Lil Wayne during upcoming events such as the Essence Festival and the Super Bowl.

Taking inspiration from the famed Hollywood Walk of Fame, Master P has created the Nola Walk of Fame, located on Canal Street. The landmark honors New Orleans’ most influential figures, including NFL legend Archie Manning and Raising Cane’s founder Todd Graves.

“This cost me $6.5 million,” Master P said, highlighting his pride in being the first Black man to own real estate on Canal Street. Future inductees include local music icons like Juvenile, Soldier Slim, and BG, further cementing New Orleans’ cultural significance.

When asked about a hypothetical partnership between No Limit and Cash Money, Master P acknowledged the idea’s transformative potential but shared that he’s content with how things turned out. “I’m happy things went the way they did,” he said, while reflecting on the personal and professional challenges he faced during that era.

Master P revealed he recognized Lil Wayne’s talent early on, recalling a moment when he told Cash Money, “I need Lil Wayne. He’s going to be one of those ones.” Though a collaboration between the two camps never came to fruition, Master P expressed pride in how both No Limit and Cash Money shaped the music industry.

Master P extended his insights to the broader concept of success, praising Lavar Ball’s guidance of his sons and emphasizing the value of carving unique paths. “Not everyone has to be a basketball player. Some can be lawyers, doctors, or run businesses,” he noted, underscoring the importance of embracing diverse ambitions.
