MashApp Brings Real-Time Music Mashups To Fans With Major Label Support.

A new music app, MashApp, officially launched in the U.S. on Tuesday (Feb. 18), allowing users to create real-time mashups of popular tracks.

Initially available on iOS, MashApp has secured licensing deals with Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, Warner Music Group, and Kobalt Music, providing access to a vast catalog of songs for mixing.

Founded by former Spotify executive Ian Henderson, MashApp aims to make music creation accessible to non-musicians. “People have long engaged with music through DJing, mixtapes, and mashups. We want to bring that experience to everyone,” Henderson said.

The app enables users to blend songs by adjusting vocals, instruments, and tempo without professional skills. It offers free and premium tiers, with paid users getting advanced tools and ad-free listening. A social feature allows creators to share their mashups and discover others.

Industry executives praised the platform’s respect for artist rights. “MashApp enhances fan engagement while ensuring artists are valued,” said Mark Piibe, EVP of Sony Music. Similar sentiments were echoed by leaders from Universal, Warner, and Kobalt Music.

MashApp enters a growing market for interactive music experiences, setting itself apart from traditional streaming platforms by prioritizing user creativity.
