LIVe, a rising artist from Prince George’s County, Maryland, is making her mark in the DMV music scene. In a recent interview on Smack Life TV, she opened up about her journey from childhood performances to earning recognition on major platforms.
Originally from PG County with strong ties to Washington, D.C., LIVe’s passion for music began early. She was involved in performing arts from a young age, starting with acting in fourth grade and later joining choir throughout high school. As a member of the Washington Performing Arts Children’s Choir, she performed at prestigious venues like the Library of Congress and the Kennedy Center. After graduating from Towson University, she began pursuing music professionally.
LIVe released her debut single, Not Perfect, in 2018 but took a break to focus on school. She returned to music in 2022, performing at various lounges and venues in the DMV area. Her career gained momentum with appearances on WUSA 9’s DMV Soundcheck in September 2023, 93.9 WKYS’s Women’s Excellence Empowerment Brunch, and 95.5 WPGC in November 2023. Drawing inspiration from Whitney Houston, CeCe Winans, Motown, and artists like Jana and Post Malone, LIVe has crafted a sound that blends vocal power with emotional depth. She describes her songwriting process as beat-driven, often structuring songs with a hook-verse-hook-verse-bridge format. Known for her efficiency in the studio, she can record four tracks in about an hour.
Her recent releases include the Unorthodox Deluxe album, featuring 24 tracks, and the Spooky Hana EP, which dropped around Halloween. She is currently preparing to release a new album, Coveted Rhymes, in February. The Unorthodox title reflects both her diverse musical style and unconventional approach to artistry.
Initially, stage fright was a challenge, particularly during her WUSA 9 appearance. However, her confidence grew during her 93.9 WKYS performance, marking a turning point where she embraced the energy of live shows. Now, she describes performing as an exhilarating experience that she has come to love.
LIVe is passionate about creating music that resonates with a wide audience, capturing real-life emotions and experiences. She also believes in fostering a stronger sense of unity within the DMV music scene, arguing that with more collaboration, the region could establish itself as a major music hub.
