Lil Wayne To Be Honored With Bmi Icon Award At 2023 R&B/Hip Hop Awards

Lil Wayne’s reputation is about to grow even further as he will soon get the BMI Icon Award at the 2023 R&B/Hip-Hop Awards.

On September 6, the annual awards ceremony for the music group will take place in South Beach’s LIV Nightclub, giving Weezy, who turns 41 on September 27, a wonderful early birthday present. The occasion will also honor the 50th anniversary of hip-hop.

According to BMI vice president Catherine Brewton, “Lil Wayne is synonymous with the genre as a legend and superstar of Hip Hop.” Since 2002, he has been a member of the BMI family, and we are pleased to recognize him as a BMI Icon in keeping with his standing as one of the most significant musicians of all time.

“We’re also thrilled to honor the 50th anniversary of Hip Hop with a celebration that honors the legacy of the genre, which has permeated entertainment, fashion, sports, and much more,” the statement continued.

Throughout his career, Weezy has won 52 BMI Awards, five Grammys, three No. 1 singles, five No. 1 albums, and five Grammys. In addition, he was selected R&B/Hip Hop songwriter of the year by BMI in 2008, 2009, 2011, and 2013; therefore, it was only a matter of time before he was presented with the Icon Award.

The BMI Icon award has previously gone to artists including Snoop Dogg, Busta Rhymes, Janet Jackson, James Brown, and others.
