Following his retirement from the NBA, Lou Williams has received support from a number of well-known people, including Lil Wayne.
The three-time Sixth Man of the Year posted a video of Weezy dedicating a freestyle to him on Wednesday (July 26), accompanied with a touching statement. Williams, 36, revealed yesterday that he will retire after playing his final season in the league with the Atlanta Hawks last year.
Following his freestyle, Wayne delivered a lengthy speech to the Underground G.O.AT that covered significant events in his career, such as leaving the NBA Bubble to buy chicken wings at a strip club and still holding the record for most points off the bench.
“My n-gga Lou Williams, man, 17 years in the game, finally retiring,” he remarked. “You the hardest n-gga in the world when you know the whole fucking NBA community knows that you went to the fucking club to get some fucking lemon pepper Lou wings.”
And I know you know that those n-ggas wouldn’t be playing in the NBA if that had been anyone else, he said. … You are the subject of songs by N-ggas, and you are deserving of each and every bar and each and every bloom, guy.
Williams has released music as a rapper, while Wayne frequently plays basketball. The two admire one another because of this, and in 2021 they even collaborated on a tune.
Over the course of his 17 seasons in the league, Lou Williams, who is most known for mastering his role as a reserve, played for six different clubs and gained the respect of the supporters of each organization.
Regarding Lil Wayne, freestyling in a sporting setting is nothing new. The 2023 ESPY Awards were opened by him earlier this month, when he gave a performance of his hit song “A Milli,” but with a twist.
He performed his timeless 2008 cut from Tha Carter III on stage at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles during the ceremony.
The 40-year-old, however, chose to recite the song’s original lyrics with new, sports-related interpretations while donning Marc Jacobs x Dr. Martens boots. Angel Reese of LSU, Damar Hamlin of the Buffalo Bills, Victor Wembanyama of the NBA, Deion Sanders of the Super Bowl, and Dennis Rodman of the NBA were all mentioned in Weezy’s change.
He was met with a roar from the audience and then said, “Thank you. “Welcome to the ESPYs 2023. I value your time and thank you for it.
