Lil Wayne has been asked to compete in the Verzuz ring for years, but he says that if he ever does, there is only one competitor he will face.
In an interview with Rolling Stone that was published on Friday (June 9), Weezy stated that he had been considering competing against himself.
He remarked, obviously using the past tense when he claimed “was interested,” in Mixtape Weezy competing against Lil Wayne. It would have been absurd. What other musicians come to mind? No other performer, buddy, can stand on the stage next to me. I apologize.
Wayne’s remarks are similar to what Birdman made when asked about a Lil Wayne Verzuz in 2021.
On the Big Facts podcast, the Cash Money mogul declared, “Himself, Wayne versus Tunechi.” He doesn’t need to touch that because he has too much going on. Brother, this is Tunechi. Come on. In one year, this n-gga released 100 singles. In one year, he surpassed Elvis Presley. I doubt anyone could surpass Billboard’s top 100 singles, which now stand at 100. I wouldn’t even play with that garbage given the effort Wayne put into it.
Swizz Beatz has subsequently clarified why he wouldn’t consider the notion of a Lil Wayne and 50 Cent Verzuz, which has recently sparked heated discussions on social media.
According to Swizz, “I personally wouldn’t even do 50 vs. Wayne — they two different dynamics and two different artists.”
We’ll see as we have a lot of stuff planned for Verzuz and hope they’re involved, but I would do a distinct Verzuz for each of them. Although I can’t say who I would pick to oppose them, wait and see.
Wiz Khalifa would also like to wrestle Lil Wayne, but his motivations are more related to the show than to the rivalry.
“Yeah, I believe that would be enjoyable. In a December interview, the CEO of the Taylor Gang stated that Wayne is a “really dope performer.” “Me and him trading bangers back and forth? That would be difficult! We’d also both smoke a ton of cannabis. That would resemble a concert rather than a Verzuz, in my opinion.
On a 2022 episode of Marcellus Wiley’s More to It podcast, Weezy mentioned a Verzuz, but it wasn’t for him as a solo act. “I would say the best competition, I would have to go with Roc-A-Fella,” he said when asked who he thought would make a good opponent for Young Money or Cash Money in the ring. The man, JAY-Z.
The eagerly anticipated battle of the hits between Jermaine Dupri and Diddy is the next event for Verzuz. The event takes place on September 8 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
