This week, Lil Wayne sang his iconic song “A Milli” to begin the 2023 ESPY Awards, but he added a twist.
On July 12, the Young Money rapper performed his timeless 2008 Tha Carter III track on stage at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles.
But instead of singing the entire song’s original lyrics, Lil Wayne chose to rework it with a modern, sports-themed twist while donning a pair of Marc Jacobs x Dr. Martens boots.
Weezy mentioned Angel Reese of LSU, Damar Hamlin of the Buffalo Bills, Victor Wembanyama of the NBA, Deion Sanders of the Super Bowl, and Dennis Rodman of the NBA.
A shout from the audience was followed by Lil Wayne’s “Thank you” statement. “Welcome to the ESPYs 2023. I value your time and thank you for it.
There were many well-known performers and athletes among the crowd, including Mike Tyson, Quavo, and 2 Chainz.
The Kansas City Chiefs won best team, A’ja Wilson won best WNBA player, and Nikola Jokic took home best NBA player honors as some of the night’s notable victors.
