Lil Uzi Vert has spoken out about the beginnings of the “Just Wanna Rock” dance, which has become popular due to its hip-swaying movements.
The quirky rapper was recently interviewed by HipHopDX on the red carpet for the BET Hip Hop Awards, and they learned that the dance first appeared in Philadelphia’s streets.
I’m from Philadelphia, and we call it blicking. Even I didn’t make it up. These teenagers in Philadelphia are the ones who do it. They said, “In Jersey, it’s called swinging your hips.
“All my little boys in Philly taught me how to do it and everything else.” You know I’m from Philly, so I just wanted to be a part of the atmosphere there. Introduce it to the world, and people will adore it.
However, Lil Uzi Vert claimed that they had not anticipated the 2022 song’s meteoric rise to fame. The RIAA has now awarded “Just Wanna Rock” a 2x-platinum certification since its release in October of last year. On the Billboard Hot 100, the song peaked at No. 10.
Also in June, the 27-year-old admitted to 032c magazine that “Just Wanna Rock” is conceptually “unfinished.”
Uzi acknowledged, “Yeah, I compose experimental music. “That song is undoubtedly incomplete. The beat’s conclusion is also off.
“People have forgotten that before becoming a rapper, I was a dancer. I’m merely a product of my environment because that’s how cool kids from Philadelphia and New Jersey dance, not because I made it up. I’m only illuminating that culture.
Even Beyoncé was inspired by Uzi’s antics and used them as inspiration for her own “Just Wanna Rock” dance routine on her Renaissance Tour.
The 17-date tour will launch in Minneapolis on October 21. The Generation Now rapper will bring their dance moves along when they travel across the United States in promotion of the Pink Tape project.
