Lil Nas X makes a triumphant return with his latest single, “J CHRIST,” marking his first release in two years. In a fashion reminiscent of his impactful 2021 single “Montero (Call Me By Your Name),” Lil Nas X takes on the role of solo director for the accompanying music video. The visually striking video playfully parodies various biblical stories, featuring Lil Nas X engaging in a one-on-one basketball match against the devil. The star-studded cast includes celebrity impersonators such as Kanye West, Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Oprah, Mariah Carey, and Barack Obama.
A press release emphasizes Lil Nas X’s bold artistic choices, stating, “THIS WAY,” as he proudly expresses his spirituality in his unique manner, creating a new narrative for himself while paying homage to the journey that brought him here. The video also nods to his iconic “MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name)” music video. This marks the commencement of a new chapter, referred to as DAY ZERO.
Lil Nas X, announcing “J CHRIST” on Instagram, dedicates the new single to “the man who had the greatest comeback of all time.” Additionally, he playfully references Kesha’s recent “cardboard box + paparazzi = new music tease,” fueling speculation of a potential collaboration between the two artists.
The release of “J CHRIST” precedes Lil Nas X’s upcoming HBO and Max documentary, titled “Lil Nas X: Long Live Montero,” scheduled for January 27th. His previous album, “Montero,” was released in 2021.
