Lil Durk has explained why it took him and J. Cole two years to record their latest single, “All My Life.”
Durk began his discussion of the Fayetteville rapper’s work on the catchy rap single that many have commended since its debut in May during a sit-down interview on The Nadeska Show on Saturday (June 17).
Lil Durk stated that “he went super crazy.” It’s crazy because he kept saying, “Send me a record,” even after we had been communicating for two years. I then think, “I’ve got to find the right record.” I’m pleased I held off for two years. He is a legend in my eyes. Will you send them anything just to send it, just to say you got one, or are you going to make it stick if you have the chance to record a song with a legend? Thus, I never simply sent him a record. I’m like, “I want something that’s gon’ stick,” so that’s why.
He continued, “He was the first person who sprang to mind after I finished the record. I got it, sort of. I think timing matters. Timing is crucial.
J. Cole’s manager recently called “cap” on accusations that the rapper demanded a hefty sum for his guest verse on the tune.
Ibrahim “Ib” Hamad responded with a cap emoji to a tweet from RapHouseTV earlier this month that claimed Cole forced Durk to pay $978,000 for his appearance on the song. False news, we’ve never been paid for a feature… Ever, wrote Durk’s DJ in response to the story on Twitter.
The aforementioned tweet looked to be only quoting Cole’s line on Young Thug’s “The London,” in which he raps: “A verse from me is like eleven birds/ I did the math it’s like $2,000 every word,” without offering any proof for their allegation.
In addition, Cole bodied the OTF frontman on his own song, which the Chicago rapper claims “barely happens” to him, as the frontman of the group revealed to Complex in May.
When asked about his interactions with the Dreamville don, Smurk remarked, “He smoked my ass on that one, for one, for one — barely. “That hardly ever occurs. But we made it happen, shout out to J. Cole and [Dr.] Luke.
Durk also discussed “All My Life” in a May interview with Apple Music, claiming that the inspiration for the song stemmed from his “moody” mood and his knowledge that J. Cole would be the ideal collaborator.
He explained, “I just go to the studio and just make the music. Whatever mood I’m in. “You know what I mean? I simply feel like Dr. Luke has a good energy about him. I just felt it when he played that song and said, “Man, I want J. Cole on this.
“And I brought it about,” he continued. I’ve been checking up on him, chatting to him, and simply asking how you’re doing. You anticipate the appropriate time for him to inquire about appearing on the song. The song is popular.
