Leon Thomas leads this year’s Grammy pack with six nominations for his breakthrough sophomore album Mutt, including album of the year and best new artist. Thomas, who won his first Grammy in 2023 for production on SZA’s “Snooze,” also received nods for best R&B album (Mutt), best R&B song (“Yes It Is”), best traditional R&B performance (“Vibes Don’t Lie”), and best R&B performance for the NPR Tiny Desk live version of “Mutt.”
The nominations mark a milestone 15 years after Thomas rose to fame as a Gen Z child star on Nickelodeon’s Victorious. He previously earned his first Grammy nod in 2020 for best rap song as a contributor to Rick Ross and Drake’s “Gold Roses.”
2025 has been a breakout year for Thomas. He hit the Hot 100 top 10 with “Mutt,” won best new artist at the BET Awards, released the funk-forward EP PHOLKS, and launched his headlining Mutts Don’t Heel Tour, which spans the U.S., Europe, and Australia, concluding April 19 in Perth.
Manager Jonathan Azu praised Thomas’ rise, noting he hopes Thomas could emulate Lauryn Hill’s iconic multi-trophy Grammy photo. Leon Thomas celebrated the nominations on Instagram, thanking his team, collaborators, and fans while promising to continue working on his next project.
