Thanks to the success of her track “Big Energy,” Latto has been named the Top Female Rap Artist and Top New R&B/Hip-Hop Artist of 2022 by Billboard.
The song itself ranked first on the R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales, Rap Digital Song Sales, and Rhythmic Airplay Songs lists at the end of the year.
“Big Energy,” the lead single from Latto’s sophomore album 777, debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 88 a little more than a year ago. The remix featuring DJ Khaled and Mariah Carey, which was published in April, rose to No. 3 on the Hot 100 chart, making it Latto’s first top 10 hits.
The song continued to keep Latto in the Top 40 of the weekly chart for 37 weeks in a row.
Powered by “Big Energy’s” success, 777 reached its highest point at No. 15 on the Billboard 200 chart and No. 8 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.
During this stellar career year, Latto’s commercial success has earned a number of honors. At the 2022 BET Hip-Hop Awards, “Big Energy” won Song Of The Year. It was also nominated for American Music Awards, MTV Video Music Awards, and MTV Video Music Awards.
The 23-year-old Atlanta rapper was also nominated for three other awards, including Favorite Female Artist at the AMAs, Best Female Hip Hop Artist at the Billboard Awards, and Top Rap Female Artist at the BET Awards. She received the Best New Artist BET Award.
The Queen of da Souf’s next big event is the 2023 Grammys, where she has been nominated for Best New Artist once more and has also received a nod for Best Melodic Rap Performance for her breakthrough song.
Latto is still active, even though she hasn’t yet made an announcement about 777’s sequel. She released her most recent single, “FTCU,” featuring GloRilla on Friday, December 2.
The song, which features Gangsta Boo as a featured artist, samples Three 6 Mafia’s “Tear Da Club Up” and “Mafia N-ggaz.”
