Lady Gaga Leads Nominations For The 2025 MTV Video Music Awards With 12 Nods.

Lady Gaga leads MTV’s Video Music Awards nominations with 12 nods for the 2025 ceremony airing live on CBS September 7. Bruno Mars follows with 11 nominations, Kendrick Lamar has 10, Sabrina Carpenter and Rosé each have eight, and Ariana Grande and the Weeknd have seven apiece. Billie Eilish received six nominations, and Charli XCX has five. A six-way tie with four nominations includes Bad Bunny, Doechii, Jelly Roll, Ed Sheeran, Tate McRae, and Miley Cyrus.

CBS will air the VMAs in prime time for the first time, simulcasting on MTV and streaming live on Paramount+ for certain subscribers. The show will broadcast live in all U.S. time zones starting at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT from New York’s UBS Arena, marking the second consecutive year at this venue.

Lady Gaga’s nominations are split between her duet with Bruno Mars “Die With a Smile,” which appears in many top general categories, and her “Mayhem” album track “Abracadabra,” which received nods in all technical categories. This is the third time Gaga leads the VMAs nominations, previously leading with 13 in 2010 and nine in 2020.

New categories include best country and best pop artist, reflecting a wider multi-genre approach with the move to CBS. The artist of the year category remains separate from best pop artist, allowing seven additional nominees for pop.

Fan voting is open at vote.mtv.com in 19 gender-neutral categories until September 5 at 6 p.m. ET, except for best new artist, which remains open during the show. Taylor Swift and Beyoncé, despite less new video output, are nominated for artist of the year.

There are 33 first-time nominees, including newcomers like Alex Warren, Role Model, and Sombr, and veterans such as Blake Shelton and Lainey Wilson added due to new categories. Rosé’s eight nominations mark her first solo nods, as do those for Jennie, Jimin, Jisoo, and Damiano David outside their groups. Other first-time nominees include Katseye, Mac Miller, Brent Faiyaz, Gigi Perez, the Marías, Leon Thomas, Lola Young, Bailey Zimmerman, Cody Johnson, Dasha, Ella Langley, Freddie Gibbs, Jordan Adetunji, Lay Bankz, Livingston, Mark Ambor, Megan Moroney, Moliy, Partynextdoor, Sasha Alex Sloan, Silent Addy, Skillibeng, and Zach Hood.

Gunpowder & Sky CEO Van Toffler produces the show. Executive producers are Bruce Gillmer, Barb Bialkowski, and Jesse Ignjatovic, with Alicia Portugal as co-executive producer. Jackie Barba is executive in charge of production, Wendy Plaut oversees celebrity talent, and Lisa Lauricella manages music talent.
