Kota the Friend will be the halftime performer for the Brooklyn Nets’ opening game at Barclays Center on Oct. 24 against the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Brooklyn rapper shared that performing at the home opener feels like a “full-circle moment,” recalling that he grew up just blocks away and began making music in his room.
The Nets are continuing their focus on highlighting local talent this season. Kota’s performance coincides with initiatives such as Biggie Nights, a collaboration with The Notorious B.I.G. estate, which will launch on Nov. 11 at Barclays Center. Kota reflected on Biggie’s influence in Brooklyn, noting that his song “Go Brooklyn” pays tribute to the city that shaped him.
Brooklyn has previously showcased local hip-hop stars for halftime performances, including Saint JHN, Joey Bada$$, Young M.A., Busta Rhymes, Lil’ Kim, and Method Man. Kota’s performance also rounds out a productive year, following the June release of his album No Rap On Sunday and his ongoing tour, which concludes with a Brooklyn show at Williamsburg Music Hall
