KMD’s Black Bastards is being commemorated by MF DOOM’s Metal face Records with the release of a deluxe special edition vinyl.
The trio, which included DJ Subroc, who sadly perished in a car accident in 1993, and MF DOOM (then known as Zev Love X), released Black Bastards as their second studio album.
Elektra Records postponed the album’s anticipated May 24, 1994, release date because of its divisive cover art, which depicted a Sambo figure being lynched.
The album was finally released in 2000 and was produced by MF Grimm, Kurious, Lord Sear, and other artists. It has received numerous accolades for being one of the best rap albums of all time and has subsequently received over 40 million streams.
Metalface Records has issued a limited edition red vinyl of the album and MF DOOM’s 1999 debut Operation: Doomsday to mark the impending anniversary of Black Bastard. The release dates for both albums are slated for March 31.
The company also revealed that they would be producing some limited edition apparel, including hoodies, beanies, hats, and shirts, all of which are currently up for pre-order at
The limited-edition release comes after MF DOOM’s estate unveiled new clothing in October to celebrate the late MC’s legacy on the occasion of his one-year passing.
