Killer Mike, who has consistently embodied the South to the fullest, has shared his favorite slang expressions that have Georgian roots.
The 48-year-old MC was questioned about his favorite slang expressions from his home state during an interview with Billboard that was published on Tuesday (July 25). He then chose three, providing samples of sentences to illustrate how they should be used.
“Shawty,” he said. “Since that might signify a variety of things. It could be interpreted as “Man, was that Shawty a pretty girl.” It could imply that your friend did something stupid: “Man, did he total your car? Shawty!” It might imply that you recently won the lottery: “You won the lottery?! Shawty!’”
Mike continued, “Hellyoutalmbout,” as his next word. “Man, I heard you lost your house — hell, you’re still alive, young man! I’m in good financial shape. I’m ok. Man, I’m in Greenwood. It could also be extremely, extremely, extremely horrible. Like, “Man, I heard your house burned down — Hellyoutalmbout,” is a common statement.
Finally, he said, “Playa.” “I believe that’s an outdated phrase we don’t use as often. But gosh, I enjoyed it. It didn’t matter to me whether it was OutKast music, Goodyie Mob tunes, or how you saw Thug or Baby; I liked it when Atlanta and Georgia kept it player. They maintain playa really well. The largest playa in the future! Furthermore, a shout-out to all the playas out there.
And I just want to follow up on ‘Jawnin,’ which simply means to tease someone, he said in his closing remarks. Although I am aware that some D.C. residents believed they invented it, all of your grandparents were from the South. We have so been talking for a while.
