Kendrick Lamar’s debut live-action comedy as a producer has been moved to a new release date, three years after its original announcement. Variety reports that the film, titled Whitney Springs, has been removed from Paramount’s release schedule as work on the project continues.
The movie is co-produced by Lamar and Dave Free’s pgLang, along with South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker, who are also directing the project. The film was previously set for release on March 20, 2026, and has faced multiple delays since its official reveal in early 2024. Details about the film’s storyline remain undisclosed.
In a joint statement, pgLang and Park County confirmed the latest shift, saying, “It’s true, we’re moving (again). We’re working hard at finishing the movie.” The script was co-written by Parker, Stone, and comedian Vernon Chatman, with Free serving as producer alongside Lamar.
Paramount CEO Brian Robbins expressed strong confidence in the project in April 2024, calling the script “one of the funniest and most original” the studio had received, according to Variety.
Whitney Springs was initially planned for a July 4 weekend debut last year, with Parker telling Bloomberg that Lamar and Free remained closely involved in the production. “Every day they are working on it,” he said at the time.
As development continues, Kendrick Lamar remains active in music. The rapper, who holds 22 Grammy Awards, is currently nominated for nine awards at the 2026 Grammys, including Album of the Year for GNX. Other artists with multiple nominations include Clipse, Tyler, the Creator, Justin Bieber, Bad Bunny, Lady Gaga, Sabrina Carpenter, SZA, and Sounwave.
The Grammy Awards will air live on February 1, 2026, where viewers will see who earns this year’s honors.
