Kendrick Lamar’s upcoming movie with South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone has been delayed to 2026, according to Variety. Originally set for release on July 4, the comedy is now scheduled to premiere on March 20, 2026. The reason for the delay has not been disclosed.
The untitled film, which was first announced in 2022, will now share its release date with the sequel to I Can Only Imagine, starring Dennis Quaid. Details about the cast remain limited, though comedian Vernon Chatman (known for Wonder Showzen and The Heart, She Holler) is serving as the primary writer.
The film’s plot centers on an African-American intern who portrays a slave actor at a history museum. He uncovers the connection that his white girlfriend’s ancestors were slave owners of some of his own relatives. Lamar’s production company, PgLang, is also involved, with Dave Free serving as a producer. The revised release date was confirmed ahead of this week’s Cinemacon in Las Vegas.
2025 was already shaping up to be a significant year for Lamar, who recently won Song of the Year and Record of the Year at the Grammy Awards. Additionally, Lamar is set to headline the Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show. He and SZA are preparing for their Grand National Tour, which will hit 19 stadiums across North America, beginning in Minneapolis on April 19. The tour will make stops in cities including Houston, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Chicago, Toronto, and Washington, D.C.
