The music for Season 2 of Bel-Air, which is scheduled to return to NBC’s streaming service Peacock next month, is Kendrick Lamar’s “N95.”
The drama’s upcoming darker season will feature Will (Jabari Banks), who is attempting to find his way to independence. The full-length trailer, which was published on Thursday (January 19), defines the tone for the season.
Kendrick can be heard singing the song’s first line, “Hello, new world,” as the preview begins. The “N95” instrumental, which was created by Baby Keem, Boi-1da, Jahaan Sweet, and Sounwave, then picks up speed to match the dramatic 2:33 minute footage.
The melodic bridge and a few bars from the third verse, where Kendrick Lamar raps at his alternate, trademark frenzied pace and tone, are among the Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers song’s phrases that are highlighted for emphasis throughout the trailer.
Based on director Morgan Cooper’s popular 2019 short film of the same name, Bel-Air is a modern drama that reimagines the difficult transition of the show’s protagonist, a fictional teenage Will Smith, from the rough streets of West Philadelphia to the lap of luxury and abundance in the prestigious gated community of Bel-Air.
