Kendrick Lamar was recently seen entering a recording studio in New York’s West Village, sparking speculation about his next project. The Compton rapper, who is currently on tour with SZA, was photographed by paparazzi at the studio, though details about what he may be working on remain unclear.
There has been some speculation that Lamar could be preparing a deluxe edition of his latest album GNX, as “TV Off” collaborator Lefty Gunplay previously teased such a release. In an interview with Bootleg Kev, Gunplay mentioned, “I know he’s got a deluxe version coming out. He’s very secretive,” adding that Lamar has “some stuff in the chamber.”
Despite the anticipation surrounding new material, GNX continues to perform well on the charts. The album’s standout track, “Luther” featuring SZA, has dominated the Billboard Hot 100 for an impressive eleven weeks, tying the record for most weeks at No. 1 among duets by co-billed lead solo male and female artists, alongside Diddy and Faith Evans’ “I’ll Be Missing You.” Additionally, GNX remains in the top five of the Billboard 200, holding the third spot.
Lamar, who is also making strides in fashion, has recently partnered with Chanel. Known for his previous collaborations with Louis Vuitton, Nike, and Converse, he has been announced as the face of Chanel’s eyewear division. In a statement, Kendrick shared his appreciation for the brand’s “timeless legacy,” noting, “Since they don’t make clothes for men, I knew it would have to be glasses.”
His connection with Chanel dates back to 2023 when he attended the Met Gala wearing a custom bomber jacket by the fashion house. In 2024, Lamar and his longtime collaborator Dave Free worked with Chanel to create a short film for the brand’s spring/summer show.
In addition to music and fashion, Lamar is also involved in a movie project with South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone.
