Kendrick Lamar tends to keep a low profile when he’s not touring or releasing new music, but he stepped out for a rare public moment in Australia this week. On Friday morning (December 5), the Daily Mail captured the Compton star hiking the 1,000 Steps Trail; also known as the Kokoda Track Memorial Walk, in the Dandenong Ranges National Park outside Melbourne.
Kendrick is currently overseas wrapping up his “Grand National” tour, which originally featured SZA and Mustard and now includes Doechii and ScHoolboy Q. He performed two back-to-back shows in Melbourne earlier this week, with his final stops set for Sydney on December 10 and 11. After a crowded stretch of touring, the hike appeared to be a moment of downtime, and he even greeted a fan during the walk. Photos show him dressed casually in a gray long-sleeve shirt and matching shorts.
While the tour is ending, Kendrick still has more shows ahead in Australia. He’s set to perform all four dates of the Split Milk festival, which brings him to multiple stops across the country. The run comes amid a historic milestone: “Grand National” is now the highest-grossing hip-hop tour ever, bringing in more than $332 million so far. With final tallies still to come, and rumors of a 2026 world tour on the horizon; his momentum doesn’t appear to be slowing.
Amid all the touring noise, this quiet hike was a reminder that even a superstar needs a break too.
