Kendrick Lamar Becomes First Rapper To Hold Three Albums In Billboard 200 Top 10 Simultaneously.

Kendrick Lamar has achieved another milestone following his Super Bowl performance, becoming the first rap artist to have three albums simultaneously in the Billboard 200’s top 10.

On the chart dated February 22—tracking sales through February 13—Lamar’s latest album, GNX, returns to No. 1. His 2017 album DAMN. lands at No. 9, while 2012’s good kid, m.A.A.d city sits at No. 10.

The Compton rapper is the first living male artist to accomplish this feat since Herb Alpert in 1966. The most recent artist overall was Taylor Swift, who had five albums in the top 10 in 2023. Prince also achieved this milestone in 2016 following his passing.

In this charting week, GNX moved 236,000 equivalent album units, DAMN. moved 39,000, and good kid, m.A.A.d city added 37,000 units.

Lamar’s post-Super Bowl buzz continued as Saturday Night Live parodied his hit “Not Like Us” during its 50th anniversary special. Will Ferrell and Ana Gasteyer reprised their classic roles as music teachers Marty and Bobbi Culp, delivering a comedic rendition of the track. Ferrell jokingly introduced it by calling for reconciliation between “Kenny Lamar and Drake Graham,” before dismissing the idea: “No? Not in hell. Message received.”

The skit also featured Doechii, Lamar’s former TDE labelmate, who performed part of her Grammy-winning track “Denial is a River.”

Though Lamar did not appear on SNL, his Super Bowl halftime show drew massive attention, with guest appearances from SZA, Mustard, Serena Williams, and Samuel L. Jackson. The performance was viewed by 133.5 million people.
