Kelly Rowland is in full promo mode for her upcoming tour with Brandy and Monica, The Boy Is Mine, but during a recent stop at SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live, it was a surprise moment from Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter tour that took center stage.
While talking with Andy Cohen, Rowland addressed the viral reunion that saw her join Beyoncé onstage during the final night of the tour; a moment many assumed had been planned in advance. According to Rowland, the appearance came together at the last minute.
When Cohen asked how long the reunion had been in the works, Rowland replied, “It was more like, ‘Hey, come,’” adding with a laugh that it was “literally on the fly.”
Despite the spontaneity, Rowland emphasized the level of preparation required to step into Beyoncé’s performance environment. She highlighted the physical demands of the show, saying Beyoncé worked intensely for the tour and spent hours onstage moving across a massive setup. Rowland recalled immediately trying to adjust, counting her steps and figuring out stage direction the moment she arrived.
The conversation then shifted to Destiny’s Child and whether Rowland hopes her children will see the group perform together someday. Instead of focusing on a potential reunion, she spoke about the personal connections her son has with “Auntie BB and Auntie Mimi,” referring to Beyoncé and Michelle Williams. She explained that he recognizes them as family figures rather than as members of a legendary group, which she views as meaningful.
Rowland also reflected on her early creative experiences, including working with Kandi Burruss. She remembered details from their sessions vividly, describing Burruss as a supportive presence who acted like a big sister in the studio. Rowland praised her, calling her a consistent guiding force.
Discussing Burruss’ reality television success, Rowland confirmed she has watched her appearances and admitted she became frustrated with other cast members, expressing loyalty by saying, “Don’t mess with Kandi.”
