After hearing his God Don’t Make Mistakes album, Kanye West reportedly sent Conway The Machine an odd but emotional gift.
The native of Buffalo, New York, made an appearance on the most recent episode of the Rap Radar Podcast, where he remembered Ye’s response to his sophomore album when he heard it before its release in Wyoming.
Conway claimed that the Yeezy mogul handed him an autographed Alcoholics Anonymous book after listening to his candid “Stressed” tune, in which he discusses how he uses booze to conceal his trauma and melancholy.
“In the third verse, I discuss how I was drinking from that bottle, how I was growing nicer every day, and how I was garbage. I’m simply sharing my experience with that from my perspective, ” Conway said. And he didn’t say anything despite hearing that crap. He simply stood up and left the room. He must have been miserable at the time.
“N-gga came back and gave me an Alcoholics Anonymous book,” he added. “Yeah, read that, dawg,” etc. I adore that album. I felt like that garbage. I don’t want to discuss the entire other talk that we had.
Conway said he was grateful that Kanye invited him to Wyoming to hear what he was working on despite the seemingly random invitation.
Kanye West has previously been open about his own struggles with alcohol.
In a Thanksgiving Prayer in 2021, he admitted, “I would drink to take the stress away and remove the edge off. Drinking worsened my already volatile temper, which had an adverse effect on both my health and the health of others around me.
Ye spoke about the influence alcohol had on his life during the Awaken 2020 prayer gathering in Arizona.
“I never considered how drinking might have affected my life. I was drinking on the red carpet, and a few minutes later I ran on stage,” he remembered.
“And everybody in the area chimed in, ‘Nah, he ain’t really no alcoholic. When you’re drinking Grey Goose and orange juice for breakfast and telling yourself “Nah, I ain’t really no alcoholic,” you reach that stage.
God Don’t Make Mistakes by Conway The Machine was released by Shady/Interscope Records in February 2022. Wallo, the co-host of Million Dollaz Worth of Game, gives an assist on the track’s cinematic outro, which was produced by Daringer.
Conway made an appearance on the song “Keep My Spirit Alive” from Kanye West’s 2021 album Donda along with fellow Griselda member Westside Gunn and singer KayCyy.
