John Legend is marking 20 years since the release of his debut album Get Lifted with a world tour that will begin on May 27 in Glasgow, U.K. The Get Lifted 20th Anniversary World Tour is scheduled to visit more than 40 cities across the United Kingdom, Europe, and North America. Notable stops on the tour include The O2 in London, Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam, Accor Arena in Paris, Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, and Barclays Center in New York City. The tour is expected to conclude on December 9 in Oakland, California. Select dates on the tour are being produced by Live Nation.
As part of the tour announcement, Legend will appear on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on March 18. He will serve as both a guest and performer, presenting a live version of “Used to Love U,” a track from Get Lifted. He will be joined by Black Thought and accompanied by The Roots during the performance.
Get Lifted was released on December 28, 2004, which also marked Legend’s 26th birthday. The album was issued through GOOD Music, Sony Urban Music, and Columbia Records. It features 14 tracks, most of which were written or co-written by Legend, who also acted as executive producer. The album included songs such as “Used to Love U,” “Number One,” “So High,” and “Ordinary People.” The latter became his first top 40 hit on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at No. 24. In the United Kingdom, the album reached No. 4 on the Singles Chart and No. 1 on the U.K. R&B Singles Chart.
The album blended elements of R&B, hip-hop, soul, and pop. It debuted at No. 7 and later peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard 200. It also reached No. 1 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. Get Lifted received eight Grammy nominations and won three awards: Best New Artist, Best R&B Album, and Best Male R&B Vocal Performance for “Ordinary People.” Both the album and the single have been certified double-Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
To accompany the anniversary tour, Legend has released two special versions of the album: a digital deluxe edition and a 3LP vinyl deluxe edition. Each version includes eight new remixes, rare B-side tracks, and two previously unreleased songs recorded during the original album sessions. Guest artists featured in the updated versions include Black Thought, Tems, Killer Mike, Lil Wayne, and Simi.
The upcoming tour will feature Legend performing with his full band. The setlist will include music from Get Lifted, along with other selections from his wider catalog. In addition to the original tracks, fans can expect updated arrangements of the anniversary remixes.
Presales for U.K. and European shows begin on March 19, with general public tickets available from March 21. North American presales open on March 26, with general ticket sales starting March 28. Additional tour dates may be announced in the coming weeks. Full ticketing details and updated information can be found at johnlegend.com.
