Jidenna wants to build a better society in which the phrase “toxic” is not frequently used to define masculinity.
In what he calls “The Masculine Reformation,” the Nigerian-American star elaborated on his ideas in a clip shared on Instagram on Wednesday (May 17).
‘Men don’t need anything,’ I know a lot of you say. “Patriarchy is more than just ingrained in us,” he said. “We are more than just ingrained. But I want a world where the term most often used to describe masculinity is not harmful. That is not a world I want to live in!
“I struggle to give a young boy an alternative reality as he develops. That shouldn’t be the only descriptor, though. Why is holy masculinity not discussed? Why is divine masculinity not mentioned?
Why don’t we say that more, he continued? The fact is, we must demonstrate and support our claims. First of all, the blame is on us. I’m also addressing anyone who identifies as a man. We are accountable. But one of my goals, in my opinion, is to advance in my career.
“I think my main goal is to give a young child an alternative reality as he grows up. I also hope they hear it. Now, I’m not sure if they will. To be honest, you never know who will hear your art when you release it.
The video appears while Jidenna’s third studio album ME YOU & GOD, which was released earlier this month, is being promoted.
“The past two years have been dreamy, and I’m not sure I’m prepared to wake up. Every song on the album was started during magic hour and concluded after I loved you back to sleep, according to a statement Jidenna made on Instagram.
“Except for the daily clash between rebels and police, the days were simple, the pace was leisurely, and the streets were deserted. Currently, it resembles the Mandela effect. Was there truly a pandemic? Did it cause a change in us, or were we just hallucinating? We were undoubtedly on drugs, then. And love is a really long journey.
We won’t ever get those days back, he continued. But with this time capsule, I managed to catch a few instances. I miss the times before the globe started to open up again. when there was only God, you, and I.
Jidenna’s 2019 sophomore album, 85 to Africa, which was distributed by Wondaland and Epic Records and has guest appearances from GoldLink, St. Beauty, Mr. Eazi, Mereba, and Seun Kuti, is followed by ME YOU & GOD.
