This week, Jermaine Dupri had to spend some time explaining to his daughter, 12, why Ice Cube’s rap moniker is what it is.
The Atlanta legend performed at this year’s Essence Fest over the weekend, and on Tuesday night (July 4), he shared the sweet moment on Instagram. In the behind-the-scenes video, JD’s daughter queries Cube’s moniker, which connotes something frigid, yet being “hot” is what one should want to be.
She said, “I’m simply trying to understand why is his name Ice Cube. Why is he cold? However, you should be hot. like the most recent trend. You ought to be doing it. You shouldn’t be feeling cold. That is completely illogical. Why are you so cold? That implies that nobody is paying attention to you.
“He’s not hot. It denotes that he is chilled. Jermaine Dupri retorted, “Cold means the same thing as hot,” to which his daughter retorted, “That is the opposite.”
JD clarified, “Cold means hot, but it’s the opposite. “If you’re cold, that means you’re really hot.”
Next, she inquired, “What about freezing? The ice does not freeze.
Ice cubes do freeze, JD confirmed. They turn into ice cubes in this manner. He is quite chilly. You get incredibly hot when you’re cold.
This was still insufficient. She continued, “But an ice cube is water, therefore that means he’s wet.
Then, JD used a sports analogy to emphasize his point: “You know in basketball when you make the shot, what they call it? Splash. Why is it called a “splash”? since it’s damp. Wet suggests he’s got serious game.
