Jay-Z's Mom Gets Married In Star-Studded Tribeca Wedding

Gloria Carter, the mother of JAY-Z, just got married to her longtime companion, and a who’s who of A-list celebrities attended the event.

On Sunday, June 2, Mama Hov tied the knot with partner Roxanne Wilshire in front of, of course, her well-known son and daughter-in-law Beyoncé. Bey’s close friend Kelly Rowland, Tyler Perry, Good Morning America host Robin Roberts, Corey Gamble, and others were reportedly present, though it appears that no members of the Kardashian/Jenner family were.

JAY-Z revealed his mother’s struggle to conceal her sexuality in his song “Smile” from 2017’s 4:44. Although Hov subsequently acknowledged in an interview that Gloria wasn’t initially on board with the song, they both came to the conclusion that the message was too vital to keep to themselves.

The song “Smile” won a Special Recognition award at the 29th GLAAD (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) Media Awards in Los Angeles in 2018. Ms. Carter collected the award on Hov’s behalf and gave a moving acceptance speech.

After being presented by Robin Roberts, Ms. Carter thanked a number of people and recalled the moment she revealed her true identity to her son. She also discussed the reasons behind her lack of candor with others and the encounter with her ex-partner, who gave her a supportive kiss in the middle of her speech, that caused everything to change.

“I’m here. I’m in love. I respect you. She said, “I have a right to love who I love because I’m productive and a human being. “So everyone, just smile and be yourself. God bless you and thank you.
