Jacquees & Dej Loaf Talk ‘F*ck A FriendZone 2,’ Musical Growth & Upcoming Tour.

R&B collaborators Jacquees and Dej Loaf are back with F**k A FriendZone 2, the long-awaited sequel to their 2017 mixtape. Sitting down with Nyla Symone on We Need to Talk, the duo opened up about the project’s evolution, their undeniable chemistry, and what’s next—including a potential trilogy and an upcoming tour.

After years of fan demand, the pair finally delivered F**k A FriendZone 2, recording songs between 2019 and now. The 16-track project showcases their artistic growth while staying true to the themes of love, friendship, and blurred lines. “We’ve had this music in the vault for years,” Jacquees shared, teasing that there’s still more to come.

The recording process spanned multiple cities, with Atlanta, Miami, and Los Angeles serving as creative hubs. Miami, in particular, produced standout records like “Just Another Love Song,” “Favorite One,” and “Back Door.” Producers Nash B, K Car, OG Parker, and Music Major helped craft the project’s signature sound.

Both artists acknowledge their growth since their first collaboration. Jacquees noted one major change—he no longer drinks in the studio, a shift Dej says has sharpened his work ethic. “We’re more intentional with our music now,” she added, emphasizing that the project is meant to be played from start to finish with no skips.

Despite the years between releases, their creative synergy remains effortless. “We’re both Aries, so the energy is always there,” Jacquees laughed.

For Dej Loaf, representing Detroit remains a priority. She reflected on her impact, recognizing how her style has influenced others. “I used to be frustrated seeing people copy my sound, but now I take it as a compliment,” she admitted. The duo even shot their album cover in Detroit, paying homage to the city that shaped her artistry.

Throughout the conversation, the two displayed their playful dynamic. They joked about being “friend-zoned” in real life, with Dej revealing she’s currently navigating a complicated situation. Jacquees, meanwhile, shared that he recently ended a four-year relationship, sparking a discussion about boundaries between work and personal life.

Looking back, the duo reminisced about their breakout hit “At The Club” and the early days of their careers. Jacquees recounted a wild tour moment where he broke his tooth onstage, while Dej recalled taking edibles on Nicki Minaj’s Pinkprint tour in 2015—an experience she won’t forget.

They also reflected on fame, calling it “a gift and a curse.” “It’s really what you make it,” Dej said.

With the album out, Jacquees and Dej are gearing up for a joint tour, with stops in major cities like Atlanta, Detroit, New York, and Los Angeles. “It’s gonna be a whole vibe,” Jacquees promised, hinting at meet-and-greet experiences for fans.

Beyond the tour, they’re considering a visual album or short film to accompany F**k A FriendZone 2. They’ve already shot three videos, with a fourth on the way. And for fans hoping for more, they teased that this might not be the end. “A trilogy? It’s possible,” Dej hinted.

From nostalgic throwbacks to new music, the duo is ready to give fans an unforgettable experience. “If I were a fan, I’d hit multiple tour dates just to get different vibes,” Jacquees said.
