Ja Rule Is Thinking About Selling His "Lucrative" Catalog, But There Is A Catch.

Ja Rule has confirmed he’s considering selling his profitable discography, but he also acknowledged that the terms of his contract would differ from those of most other musicians.

The rapper behind “Put It On Me” got down with Bloomberg Business earlier this week to discuss his reasoning behind selling his discography as part of what he believes will be a reversion deal that will allow a portion of the proceeds to be repaid to his family in the future.

I have learned that my catalog is quite profitable, he added. “I’ll thus be looking to sell. I’ve been seriously considering entering into a reversion agreement in which I would likely surrender half of my catalog and have it return to my family.

“I believe that quantifying the worth is somewhat difficult. Usually, when the artist begins to fade away, the value of the song begins to decline. The music’s worth starts to decrease.

The rapper from Murder Inc. has eight Billboard Hot 100 Top 10 successes to his credit (according to Billboard): “Always On Time,” “Mesmerize,” “Livin It Up,” “Ain’t It Funny,” “Wonderful,” “Down 4 U,” “Put It On Me,” and “I’m Real.” Three of his songs reached the Hot 100’s peak, and two of his albums reached the top spot.

Ja Rule would not be the first Hip Hop artist to sell their archive, as lucrative deals have recently been struck by Metro Boomin, Dr. Dre, Iggy Azalea, Future, Mannie Fresh, Zaytoven, Chuck D, and other artists as well.

Ja Rule recently recognized that his blending of Hip Hop and R&B has had a significant impact on today’s music, especially with musicians like Drake.
