Issa Rae Co-Founds Black History-Inspired Restaurant In Los Angeles.

Issa Rae, the 39-year-old actress and entrepreneur, has launched Somerville, a restaurant honoring Black culture and history in Los Angeles. Partnering with Yonnie Hagos and Ajay Relan, Rae expands her business ventures by blending community, heritage, and cuisine in the View Park-Windsor Hills neighborhood.

“Always wanted a neighborhood lounge…an ode to the classic, artistic past of Black South Central L.A,” Rae shared on Instagram. Somerville, located near the founders’ Hilltop Coffee + Kitchen, embraces South LA’s cultural history, including its connection to Black music icons of the 1921-1956 era.

Curated by chef Geter Atienza, the menu includes dishes like lamb shank and collard green lasagna. Guests can enjoy live music, cocktails, and a relaxed ambiance. Visit SomervilleSlauson.com or follow @Somerville.Slauson for updates.
