The most recent of Hip-Hop’s hometown heroes to receive recognition for their contributions to the neighborhood is 21 Savage.
While spreading holiday cheer at his Leading By Example Foundation’s fourth annual Grant-A-Wish event in Stone Mountain, Georgia, the “Rich Flex” rapper was honored.
According to TMZ, 21 Savage invited 100 local families to a Christmas event and distributed gifts and holiday fare. The gift was made much more spectacular by his interaction with the guests and his signing of some of the kid’s toys.
Billy Mitchell, a state legislator for Georgia, gave 21 Savage a proclamation in honor of his charitable work and musical achievements. He proclaimed December 21 to be “21 Savage Day” during the ceremony.
The award recognizes the rapper’s contributions to the neighborhood, such as his Bank Account Campaign, which advocates “financial literacy instruction to marginalized youngsters.”
The non-profit, which was established in 2018, provides “scholarships, access to bank accounts and job placement for youths and students alike” in addition to providing free finance classes.
One Hundred $1,000 scholarships were awarded by 21 Savage and the financial technology company Chime the previous year. After completing the six-course online curriculum for Bank Account at Home, they were made available to high school students.
“I’ve been an advocate for financial literacy because I believe it can help free youth to focus on the more important things in life,” 21 Savage said when he launched the program.
