It has been stated by Janelle Monáe that they are at ease in their own flesh and have no regrets about displaying their breasts; in fact, Monáe claims that they are “much happier” doing so.
The singer/actor discussed their forthcoming album, The Age Of Pleasure, with Rolling Stone. Monáe talked about entering a time of sexual liberation and freedom during the exchange.
Monáe also talked about the criticism they recently faced for exposing themselves during a celebration for the release of their new song and music video, “Lipstick Lover.”
The “Tightrope” vocalist doesn’t seem to care about the criticism of their NSFW album advertising; they just like flaunting their breasts. Monáe told RS, “I’m much happier when my titties are out and I can run about freely.
The Glass Onion star also discussed how the epidemic gave them the inspiration to create new music, pointing out that they were greatly impacted by the numerous enjoyable dance parties where music spanned from Afropop to Hip Hop.
The album, in Monáe’s words, “celebrates Blackness around the world.”
All of my friends and the people in my neighborhood, who are from South Africa, Ghana, Nigeria, the Caribbean, Atlanta, L.A., and Chicago, they stated, “were the inspiration for it.”
“Seeing all of us together in our Blackness, in the love we had in our eyes for each other,” Monáe concluded. People from the continent play with Atlanta-made trap. You understand what I mean? I adore how the diaspora communicates with one another.
“I want things to feel so true to my life,” Janelle continued. “I once thought of myself as a futurist. Obsessing over the next item is what that means, and I get it. I currently refer to myself as a present-day traveler. I’m consciously trying to be here now.
The Age Of Pleasure by Monáe will be out on June 9.
SZA weighed in on the debate surrounding Janelle’s recent stunt and praised the singer for defying norms and being open about their sexuality.
“I love that’s it’s HER being free rn because ppl LOVE to box women in and claim that because your articulate respected and intelligent, you can’t show your body or be sexual or anything else lol,” SZA said in the remarks of a recent Instagram post by RNB Radar starring Monáe.
