Despite earlier rumors that there were some problems between the two, Ice Spice and Drake are in such a fantastic place that the OVO head honcho is even teaching the newcomer.
On Wednesday, July 19, the “Munch” hitmaker made an appearance on Apple Music 1 to have a lengthy discussion about her upcoming Like…? extended EP with Zane Lowe. Regarding mentors, the Bronx rapper claimed that in addition to Drizzy, Nicki Minaj also offered her advice.
“[Drake and I] talk all the time and we’re always just laughing about some things that go on,” Ice Spice affirmed. And I’ll inquire of him, ‘What should I do with this?’ Also, “How did you approach this?” or “Have you ever encountered that?” And he’ll say, “I did this and you should do that too, because you can,” without giving specific examples. Then I’ll say, “You’re right. Period. I’ll carry that out. It has a coach vibe about it.
She added about Nicki: “I feel like I am learning from her and taking tips from her and whatnot. She’ll say things like, “Learn from my error, do this or don’t do that,” etc. The queen is the only one I will listen to, so I just pay close attention to what she has to say.
After the 23-year-old’s blockbuster single “Munch (Feelin’ U)” and freestyle on On the Radar Radio drew Drake’s notice, the two were romantically involved for the first time in August 2022. As a result, Drizzy flew Ice to Toronto to attend his OVO Fest, where she was photographed by attendees.
She recalled the unexpected encounter with Drake and said, “Linking up with him was so cool,” according to RapCaviar on Spotify at the time. Like, he’s so respectful and sweet. We attended OVO Fest. It was thrilling since it was, I believe, his first performance in Toronto in a few years. So everyone was excited, even if it was just a movie.
But astute social media snoops observed that Drake unfollowed Ice Spice soon after, and that he subsequently appeared to criticize her on the song “BackOutsideBoyz” from his Her Loss album with 21 Savage.
Drake raps, “She a 10 tryna rap, it’s good on mute,” in the song, which caused Ice to respond on Twitter when it was released in November. As she wrote, “At least ima 10 [shrugging emoji] [laughing with tears emoji],” she was ten.
