Ice Spice States That Social Media Captions Are The Source Of Her Lyrics

According to Ice Spice, when she first started creating songs, many of the lyrics were originally intended to be clever social media tags.

The Bronx rapper sat down with the New York Times after the release of her debut EP Like..? to talk about the path that led her to this point in her career. She admitted that when she was younger, she initially experimented with writing by freestyling for her father as he took her to school, and she went on to say that two things ultimately motivated her to pursue a career as an artist.

The first was when she realized she had what it took to garner attention after her #BussItChallenge video went viral, and the second was when Brooklyn Drill artists started to gain more recognition.

Ice Spice claimed that she would consider ways to adapt the catchiest lyrics from songs by musicians like Pop Smoke and Sheff G for use on social media as she listened to them.

“I like to hear catchy stuff and I always be thinking like, Damn, what should I caption this? So I just started coming up with mad captions,” she explained, adding that music soon became therapeutic to her.
