Ice Spice has had a remarkable year thus far, and Billboard’s Rookie of the Year award for 2023 is being given in recognition of her achievements.
The newspaper announced that the “Munch” rapper had won the title on Thursday, August 3. She will formally accept the honor on August 8, according to the journal.
Ice Spice told Billboard, “I have worked so hard, and it means a lot to be recognized for it and have more than just trophies to show for it. “I hope to advance the genre in any way I can, but I know I’ll have a significant influence on the kids growing up now.”
The publication added that it gave Ice Spice the honor since she has four songs that reached the Hot 100’s Top 10 as well as successful collaborations with Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift.
In relation to Nicki Minaj, Ice Spice recently acknowledged that she had cried upon meeting her “Barbie World” co-star.
The Bronx native described her dramatic first encounter with Nicki Minaj, a moment she claimed to have manifested, in-depth with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe last month, admitting that while trying to play it cool, she was nervous.
Ice Spice remembered, “I was, like, nervous to get there.” “Okay, I’m chilling. I was like that once I got there. However, when I overheard her say something, I started to feel uneasy.
“I started crying when she gave me a hug… I sobbed, but I turned and left. I didn’t say anything to her, for example. I simply think, “Bro, just the journey,” You know, meeting Nicki was wonderful and all, but for me, it mostly just felt like, “This is a full circle moment.”
