Ice Spice is still making a name for herself, shattering a record once held by Nicki Minaj, the Queen of Hip Hop, with her powerful “Karma” collaboration with Taylor Swift.
The star-studded remix gave the hot Bronx rapper the largest streaming debut for a female rapper in global Spotify history, according to Chart Data.
The song received 5.036 million plays on the platform on its first day after being made available on Friday (May 26) as a bonus track on Swift’s brand-new deluxe album Midnights (The Til Dawn Edition). This made “Karma” the top new entry and drove it to No. 5 on the global Spotify list.
Additionally, it contributed to Ice Spice’s biggest Spotify streaming day of her young career, accounting for nearly half of her 10.5 million listens on May 26.
Prior until now, Nicki Minaj’s chart-topping song “Super Freaky Girl,” which debuted with 3.021 million plays after its release in August 2022, held the record for the largest streaming debut for a female rap song on Spotify, according to ChartData.
Nicki has thus far been one of Ice Spice’s biggest champions, despite the fact that the news of her being overshadowed by the “Munch (Feelin’ U)” singer may fuel the flames of her fiercely competitive character.
She dubbed Spice the “princess” of Hip Hop in March, then joined the remix to her Like..? EP track “Princess Diana.” This helped Spice’s quickly expanding popularity.
In fact, the song assisted Nicki in breaking a record of her own as it became her 14th No. 1 hit on the Billboard Digital Song Sales chart, beating Drake’s previous mark.
When it makes its Billboard Hot 100 debut next month, “Karma,” a powerful collaboration, is poised to make a significant sensation and could pave new ground for Ice Spice.
The 23-year-old has achieved chart success twice after becoming well-known for her viral hit “Munch” last summer, courtesy to her PinkPantheress collaboration “Boy’s a Liar Pt. 2” (No. 3) and the aforementioned “Princess Diana” remix with Nicki Minaj (No. 4). However, she hasn’t yet achieved the top rank.
In any event, Spice’s meteoric rise to fame is being fueled by “Karma,” as she just joined Taylor Swift to sing the song in front of Swift’s largest audience to date.
