Ice Cube has reached an agreement with Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema to write and star in Last Friday, the fourth installment in the Friday comedy series. This will be the first new entry in over 20 years, following Friday After Next in 2002.
New Line president and CCO Richard Brener confirmed the deal in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, with Variety also verifying the news. Ice Cube has long expressed interest in making another Friday movie, but this agreement marks a major step forward. In June 2024, he mentioned on Flavor of the Week with Flavor Flav that the project was gaining traction under Warner Bros. film division leaders Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy.
Ice Cube has been involved in the Friday franchise since its inception, starring in Friday (1995), Next Friday (2000), and Friday After Next (2002). He co-wrote the first film with DJ Pooh and wrote the two sequels on his own. The franchise was originally developed by New Line, where De Luca was an executive at the time. When Warner Bros. later acquired New Line, it gained control of the Friday rights, making this latest sequel possible.
With Ice Cube now officially on board, Last Friday is moving closer to production, though further details about its release timeline have yet to be announced.
