I Never Liked You by Future has consistently appeared on year-end lists of the best albums of 2022, and NBA star Kevin Durant has given him high marks.
On an ETC podcast, KD listed his top 5 albums of the year, with Pluto earning the top spot from the Brooklyn Nets forward.
“That album, top to bottom – I think where I first heard it, where I was, made it a moment for me,” Durant said. “On top of every song, I don’t think he had any misses on here.” Did he go 16 for 16 on here?
“Transparency, he’s honest, he’s vulnerable, confident, aggressive. He’s really authentic with his moment. “I don’t feel like it’s a lie at all,” he added.
When considering the full Future experience, KD continued by describing the Billboard Hot 100 number one single “WAIT FOR U” with Drake and Tems as one of his favorites of the year. He also claimed that the project felt like “a movie.”
222,000 total album-equivalent units were sold in the first week of I Never Liked You’s release, propelling it to the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 in May.
Kodak Black’s Back For Everything is ranked No. 5 in Durants’ Top 5, as the former NBA MVP has long been a Yak fan. The fourth place went to Steve Lacy’s Gemini Rights, and the third place went to 38 Spesh’s 7 Shots.
“I play it during shootaround before the games,” KD said. “I play it everywhere, actually.” “It was top-to-bottom, you already know.”
The Nets star dubbed “Privileged Rappers” the best song from the joint effort, with “Middle of the Ocean” not far behind.
On the court, KD and the Nets will play the injured Golden State Warriors on Wednesday night in Brooklyn as they attempt to win their seventh straight game (December 21).
