In conjunction with their latest song, “Grindin’ My Whole Life Pt. 2,” Hit-Boy has released a new joint video in which he welcomes his father home from prison.
On Thursday, May 11, the Grammy Award-winning musician’s father Big Hit (actual name Chauncey Hollis Sr.), who also appears in the video, was also released.
Both men can be seen in the video rapping on their distinct life paths and celebrating their father-son relationship while standing side by side.
“No more tears in silence, no strugglin’, no strivin’/ No more police sirens/ You was addicted to runnin’ the streets and I was addicted to beats/ I played for the Pony’s in Pasadena and you wasn’t there to lace up my cleats,” Hit-Boy raps over the sample-heavy track.
Big Hit adds: “I been grindin’ my whole life, I had to go and get it/ You know I’m with it, from the streets to the Pen, I’m with the business/ I’m the new black Super-Hero, fuck crime/ I’m goin’ legal/Flood the system’s so lethal, Pharaoh, release my people.”
The song “Grindin’ My Whole Life Pt. 2” is a continuation of the song “Grindin’ My Whole Life” from Hit’s We the Plug compilation album, which featured HS87 in 2014.
The two artists are working together for the first time since Hit Boy’s father was freed from prison earlier this month. He was detained in Illinois in 2014 after a traffic stop when it was discovered that he had a California warrant out for his arrest.
The hit-and-run incident in Los Angeles that resulted in the warrant, according to Patch, gravely injured multiple persons. Big Hit was ultimately given a state jail term of twelve years and four months by the trial court.
Big Hit went to the studio with his son as soon as he was a free man to celebrate. Hit-Boy said on Instagram earlier this month, “Big Hit Free. knocked down 9 years and came straight to the stu.”
In other Hit-Boy news, the producer of King’s Disease just provided a sneak peek of an AI track on which he and Kanye West appear to sort of reunite.
Ye released the song on Instagram last month, rapping the hook from Hit-Boy’s song “2 Certified” off the Surf or Drown album.
“I’m going to need everything” I attacked their neck and changed history while you made a little paper. He raps over the drill-inspired beat, “Hot like I tossed ’em in grease/ The one, not the two or the three/ I’m watchin’ the numbers climb.
However, as the West Coast singer made clear in his commentary, Kanye didn’t actually record the vocals; instead, they were produced using AI (artificial intelligence) voice technology.
“AI is becoming irrational. Hit-Boy wrote beside an exploding head emoji, “@kanyewest rapping 2 certified sounds too crazy.
He can be heard on the video stating, “That shit is wild!” as other studio users also express shock.
