Hip-Hop’s Caribbean Connection: Addressing Misconceptions and Acknowledging Contributions.

This is a sneak peak of ‘Show & Tell Boston’ podcast’s Community Forum Event 7. In this clip,  the crew discussed the origins of Hip Hop and the Latino communities’ contribution to Hip Hop culture. Many have said that Hip Hop is exclusively a Black American culture while others have argued that other communities, like Latino Community, have also contributed to the birth of Hip Hop culture too.

This conversation is just one of the many topics covered in their upcoming Event 7 episode. During the conversation, they emphasized a sense of unity among Caribbean people, regardless of their specific nationality. They argue that Caribbean Islanders, including Puerto Ricans and Haitians, should be seen as part of a broader Caribbean identity, and their contributions to hip-hop and other musical genres should be recognized.

They highlighted how Caribbean artists and producers have been integral to the development of hip-hop from its early days, despite some views that attempt to minimize their impact. The speaker expresses frustration with arguments that dismiss the contributions of Caribbean individuals to hip-hop, calling such arguments ignorant.
