Later this week, Metro Boomin will release his Heroes & Villains album, but before that happens, the powerhouse producer has released a short video to go along with the record.
Gibson Hazard, who also directed Lil Uzi Vert’s raunchy “Just Wanna Rock” video, is the director of the incendiary six-minute film, which debuted on YouTube on Tuesday, November 29.
Hollywood A-listers joined Young Metro, as LaKeith Stanfield of Atlanta played the villain while the legendary Morgan Freeman provided the movie’s divine voice.
“For years, Metro Boomin has protected the city from the unrelenting threat of evil,” Freeman narrates. “With the light of the Boomanati headquarters, once a beacon of hope has gone dark. “In Metro’s absence, villains rise from the shadows.”
In the animated movie, Young Thug and Gunna also make an appearance as coworkers who serve as broadcasters who show viewers the commotion taking over the city. Throughout, “Free YSL” banners were displayed as Metro made sure to stand up for his pals who are behind bars.
The album’s music serves as the soundtrack for the video, with 21 Savage and Future featured on a variety of elaborate songs, while Kanye West’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy “So Appalled” sample and Chris Brown’s vocals are used in the closing credits scene.
“Heroism isn’t about earning accolades or even defeating villains, it’s choosing to risk everything for the people, expecting nothing in return – we all know the city loves its legends, but tonight they need a hero,” Freeman adds. “Which one do you want to be? “You know what they say if Young Metro don’t trust you, motherfucker you better run.”
LaKeith Stanfield becomes enraged when Metro uses a chain to change into a superhero and revs the Metromobile to save the city.
In addition to the aforementioned guests, Travis Scott will also make an appearance at the celebrity-studded event. The sequel to Metro’s 2018 comic Not All Heroes Wear Capes, Heroes & Villains, comes out on December 2.
