Hazel Savage, former CEO and co-founder of Musiio, has been appointed as the new CEO of UK-based music startup Syntho. The company, founded in 2020 by DJ and producer Josh Baker, specializes in music production education, offering structured courses for producers at various skill levels.
Syntho provides over 360 hours of content and 560 tutorials in six languages, with a focus on helping producers master Ableton and improve their production techniques. The company has grown steadily since its launch, generating $700,000 in revenue in 2024 without external funding.
On March 4, Syntho announced Savage’s appointment, highlighting her experience in music technology. She began her career at Shazam and later worked at Pandora, Universal Music, BandLab, and HMV. In 2018, she co-founded Musiio, an AI-driven music curation company, which was acquired by SoundCloud in 2022. After the acquisition, she served as SoundCloud’s VP of Music Intelligence before leaving the role in December 2024.
Josh Baker, who remains actively involved with Syntho, continues to lead content development and tutorial creation. His “Introduction to…” videos are among the platform’s most-watched. In addition to his work with Syntho, Baker is a DJ and producer with performances scheduled in 2025 at Miami Music Week, Amnesia Ibiza, Parklife, and Mint Festival.
“I first met Josh in April 2024 at an investing event in Leeds. After leaving SoundCloud, Josh approached me about joining Syntho,” said Savage. “The Syntho product has built a strong connection with its audience, and the leadership team has been very welcoming. I’m looking forward to 2025.”
Baker emphasized the importance of bringing in experienced leadership. “As we grow, it’s important to be smart and focused. Hazel has worked in music tech for 18 years and has experience building and selling a company. That makes her a strong fit for Syntho’s next stage.”
