On Episode 140 of the Guest Speaker Series, LA-based hip-hop collective C4RP00L joined the program to reflect on their journey, creative process, and vision for the future. The group, comprised of Renzo Starr, Michael the Villain, and Kent Danger, originally formed in North Carolina while attending NC State University.
The trio’s origin dates back to their college years, where chance meetings led to collaborations that revealed an immediate musical chemistry. What began as casual studio sessions quickly grew into something more substantial, evolving into a collective and eventually a full-fledged group.
Since their formation, C4RP00L has toured nationally, building a grassroots following across multiple cities. The group has also released three full-length albums under the Creature Mode banner: Vulnerable, Velocity, and Vicious. Each project reflects a distinct perspective and style aligned with one of the three members, making the trilogy both a group effort and an individual statement for each artist.
C4RP00L also performed in Boston this past July as part of the “Mind Flex Presents” showcase series at New Dia, further cementing their presence in the independent touring circuit.
On the Guest Speaker Series, the group discussed how their music remains rooted in collaboration and authenticity. They highlighted their commitment to a DIY approach, taking charge of everything from recording and production to visuals, merchandise, and branding.
The conversation also touched on their influences, their ability to maintain balance between individuality and group cohesion, and the ways they continue to challenge themselves creatively without losing the spontaneity of their early sessions.
With three albums already released and a touring circuit established, C4RP00L emphasized their forward-looking vision. They plan to continue creating projects that reflect both their individual artistry and collective identity, while seeking new ways to expand their audience.
