Grandmaster Flash Blasts Omission Of Hip Hop’s True Origins In Hip Hop 50 Celebrations

Grandmaster Flash has long been regarded as one of the creators of the kind of music that is now known as hip hop, but he disapproves of self-described followers who are ignorant of their origins.

The Furious Five leader decided to educate the hosts in an interview with Shade 45 that he first posted on his TikTok page on Thursday (June 15) and then later shared to his Instagram page. He also decided to drag self-proclaimed fans who failed to include the significant players in their 50th anniversary of Hip Hop celebrations.

He asked, “Can you verbalize to this?” There was just one man who had this nursery rhyme-like mannerism. And we briefly interacted. And then he was there when I went to see my girlfriend. I was seeing the younger sister while he was seeing the elder sister. So here we are again. I asked him to try the next time I went to play in the park. The rapper was born here, as well.

He said, “His name was Keith Wiggins; he went by the moniker ‘Cowboy.’ […] The remaining Five are history. But all I wanted to say was, “Sway, thanks for this.” Yes, I am aware that there is a lot to discuss. But Hip Hop has existed for 50 years. And

“Nobody is discussing the DJs. Nobody is mentioning the amazing producers who put these amazing songs together. I’ll bet my life on it, but none of you rappers could have come up with these dope ass lines [without them], I’m telling you.

Despite being one of Hip Hop’s founders, Grandmaster Flash is anything but a dinosaur. He actually considers Drake (who he dubbed a “genius”) and GloRilla to be his two favorite artists.

At the 65th Annual Grammy Awards, when HipHopDX got up with the pioneer, he confessed that his kids had been pleading with him to check out the budding Memphis sensation. Grandmaster Flash listened to her debut track, “F.N.F.,” and gave him immediate approval.

Flash received an honorary doctorate in music earlier this month. Alongside former New York State Representative José Rivera, the DJ delivered the commencement address at Lehman College in the spring of 2023.

Grandmaster Flash’s emotional remarks about his contribution to Hip Hop’s early origins, in connection with the genre’s 50th anniversary celebration this year, really struck a chord, notwithstanding Rivera’s stirring message about resiliency.
