Google tests Web Guide to organize search results using Gemini AI.

Google is testing a new feature called Web Guide, which uses a custom version of Gemini AI to organize search results. Unlike AI Overviews that dominate the top of the page, Web Guide retains the traditional structure but groups web links by topic with short intros.

Web Guide also uses AI Mode’s “fan-out” method to show related queries. A demo for “how to solo travel in Japan” showed sections like safety tips and personal experiences, with Reddit threads featured prominently.

The system may help some sites receive traffic, addressing concerns from AI Overviews reducing clicks. However, it’s unclear how Gemini ranks the links in Web Guide.

Currently, the feature is only available via Search Labs. Users can switch between Gemini-curated and standard search using the “Standard Web” option. Google plans to expand Web Guide to the full “All” tab in the future.
