Google is hinting at the shift from Assistant to Gemini across its smart home lineup. A teaser posted on X confirmed more details will be shared on Wednesday, October 1. The post read, “Gemini is coming to Google Home,” alongside a link for users to sign up for updates via the Google Store.
The teaser clip briefly showed what appears to be a new Nest Camera. While similar to previous versions, the sensor design suggests it’s a different model. It’s unclear if this will be an indoor or outdoor version, but both are reportedly in development.
Leaks from Android Headlines claim Google is preparing several new products. Among them is a wired Nest Doorbell offering 2K resolution, zoom, crop features, and extended 3-hour video previews. The company is also said to be working on a round smart speaker, resembling a cross between a Nest Mini and Apple’s HomePod Mini. The device was briefly spotted during the Google Pixel 10 launch last month.

Google previously announced “early access” to Gemini on smart home devices, expected to begin in October. The upcoming reveal could provide details on which products will get access first, with new launches possibly shipping with Gemini enabled by default.
In recent years, the company has faced criticism for neglecting its Nest ecosystem while prioritizing Gemini. In July, Anish Kattukaran, Chief Product Officer at Google Home and Nest, acknowledged customer frustration and promised long-term fixes. “We hear you loud and clear and are committed to getting this right,” Kattukaran said. “We’ve been actively working on major improvements and will have more to share in the fall.”
