Glorilla Explains How She Changed Her Rap Voice And Got Used To Her Deep Voice

GloRilla gained fame for her deep, bass-heavy voice, although back then she wanted to sound more “like a girl.”

Big Glo described how her voice sounded very different when she first started rapping in an interview with The Cut. The Memphis star claimed that she began smoking, which caused her voice to shift. When she attempted to raise her pitch, her pals called her out.

“When I first started rapping. I wanted to sound like a girl,” she told the outlet before mentioning her friends wanting her to keep her deep voice. “They were like, ‘You really got bars. Your voice just sound squeaky.’ I was like, ‘Oh, okay, let me just put emphasis on what I already sound like, just add a lil bit more sauce to it.’”

The Collective Music Group rapper took that advise to heart and went on to find mainstream success with her debut hit, “F.N.F. (Let’s Go).” Since then, Glo has received her first Grammy nomination for Best Rap Performance, which will be presented on Sunday (February 5).

GloRilla later stated her enthusiasm about attending the Grammys this year and perhaps winning the golden gramophone in an interview with The Cut.
