Gillie Da Kid Recreates Chauncey Billups’ Classic ‘Slam’ Cover — With A Twist

As only the podcast host could do, Chauncey Billups’ iconic SLAM Magazine cover has been parodied by Gillie Da Kid with a humorous twist.

This time, Gillie and Wallo arrived at the SLAM headquarters where Gillie recreated the Billups 2006 cover in full Chauncey Gillups garb.

Even after being FaceTimed into the room, the 2004 NBA Finals MVP couldn’t stop giggling at Gillie’s humorous recreation of the cover, which featured a mustache and bald head similar to Billups’.

Oh, are you performing the SLAM joint? When the Portland Trail Blazers head coach saw Gillie Da Kid wearing the Pistons’ “Gillups” jersey on FaceTime, he commented, “That is funny guy. “Ay, you’ve got the mustache and all that.”

“I’m just doing a SLAM joint,” Gillie retorted. I am true to my word. I merely wanted you to quickly notice that… You are aware that I go by the names Damian Gillard, Chauncey Gillups, and Gilbert Arenas.

Gillie Da Kid tweeted a chunk of the video on his Instagram earlier this week, and Rip Hamilton and DJ Clue, who are teammates with Billups on the Pistons, both laughed in the comments.

The 98th SLAM Magazine issue, published in early 2006, featured Billups on the cover and highlighted the point guard’s MVP aspirations.

When the Detroit Pistons defeated the Los Angeles Lakers and won the 2004 championship, where Billups was named MVP, the NBA star previously covered SLAM.
